Patagonia, founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard, is a leading brand in outdoor apparel and gear, known for its strong commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
The company has been working for over a decade to eliminate PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from its products. By Fall 2019, Patagonia introduced its first products with PFAS-free durable water-repellent (DWR) finishes, and by Spring 2024, approximately 96% of their water-repellent materials by weight are made without PFAS. Patagonia aims to completely phase out PFAS from all its water-repellent finishes and membranes by 2025. This initiative is part of Patagonia’s broader mission to reduce harmful chemicals in its supply chain and promote environmental health.
